Guests can take to the air on the new Glenwood Canyon Flyer and re-engineered Soaring Eagle Zip Ride. A blacksmith shop and Cowboy Camp provide additional entertainment when the park kicks off its summer season and Music on the Mountain Concert Series on Friday, May 23.

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (April 30, 2014) — There's something in the air at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park; the mountain-top theme park in Glenwood Springs is giving its guests more ways to take to the skies this summer. They can fly out 1,400 feet above the Colorado River on the new Glenwood Canyon Flyer or soar down the mountain on the re-engineered Soaring Eagle Zip Ride. There are new attractions on the ground as well, including a working blacksmith shop and a Cowboy Camp with live music. The season officially begins at the park's Summer Kick-off Party on Friday, May 23, which includes a performance by Beatles cover band Doctor Robert at the first Music on the Mountain concert of the year.

"We've got a great summer in the works for our guests this year," said Steve Beckley, who owns Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with his wife Jeanne. "The Soaring Eagle Zip Ride has been completely redesigned and is much more exciting now. There'll be more free entertainment at the blacksmith shop and Cowboy Camp, and the new Glenwood Canyon Flyer is really going to be a hit."

Glenwood Canyon Flyer spinning during sunsetThe Glenwood Canyon Flyer, which has been designed to look like a giant tree, will be perched on the edge of Glenwood Canyon, right between the Giant Canyon Swing and the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster. Riders will take their seats and will go higher and higher as the ride spins them around, until they are flying out over the Colorado River 1,400 feet below. The ride can accommodate 24 people at a time.

The Soaring Eagle Zip Ride begins at the same spot as in the past, but nearly everything else about it is new. Guests now board at ground level near the Alpine Coaster – there are no longer any stairs to climb – and are then carried backwards, 600 feet up the mountain. At the top, they reverse direction for a thrilling zip ride back down to the ground. The new configuration provides easier access and increases the efficiency of the ride to reduce wait times during the peak season.

Alongside the Nature Trail, which leads to the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster and the Glenwood Canyon Flyer, the new Cowboy Camp is the perfect spot to sit down, kick back for a while and enjoy live Western music. Doc Holliday and Kid Curry lookalikes will be back this year to stir up some trouble and pose for a few photos in the plaza. Visitors will also be able to watch a blacksmith make sparks, along with some souvenirs, at a working coal-fired forge and anvil shop. Expanded photography services will provide additional opportunities for custom photos as well.

The Summer Funday Pass will be available starting May 10, when the park's seasonal rides and attractions open. The prices for this inclusive one-day pass are the same as last year: $48 for adults and $43 for kids ages 3 – 12. The Funday Pass includes a round-trip ride on the Iron Mountain Tram, or bus in case of inclement weather, both walking cave tours and unlimited turns on all of the rides and attractions. Gemstone sluice box mining, the electronic shooting gallery and souvenir photography are priced separately. Individual ride pricing options are also available.

Music on the Mountain, the park's popular free concert series, is back for its sixth year. The first concert of the year coincides with the Summer Kick-off Party on Friday, May 23. Guests can ride the tram or bus free starting at 4 p.m. with the donation of a canned food item for the Lift-Up community food pantry. Beatles tribute band Doctor Robert is back by popular demand and will keep the crowd dancing from 6 – 10 p.m. The series will continue with Night Plane on Sat., May 31; Poser on Sat., June 7; the Bobby Mason Band on Sat., June 14, and will resume with seven more concerts in August and September.

"The community has shown amazing support for the Music on the Mountain Concert Series over the years," said Beckley. "From 2009 through 2013, we collected more than 31,000 cans of food to help out our neighbors in need. We're so fortunate to live and work in a place where people take care of each other."

Looking forward, the park will introduce Winter on the Mountain in November. The mountaintop will come to life with a sparkling display of more than 400,000 twinkling lights, winter rides and two warming huts. During the holidays, a giant Christmas tree with a timed music and light show will entertain guests in the plaza, with visits from Santa and a fire pit to roast s'mores.

More information about the park, including hours of operation and a list of which attractions are open, can be found at or by calling 800-530-1635 or 970-945-4228, ext. 0.
