GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (Aug. 29, 2012)
The Music on the Mountain benefit concert series continues at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with The Hell Roaring String Band on Sat., Sept. 8. Guests will be able to enjoy live music and a free tram or bus ride in exchange for a canned food donation to benefit the LIFT-UP food pantry during the event.
The Music on the Mountain series, which started in 2009, reached a milestone during the Aug. 25 Rock Dogs concert, easily surpassing the 20,000-can mark. To date, the community has donated 20,451 food and personal care items during the series.
"Our community has always supported us, and we love being able to return that support," said Steve Beckley, who owns Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park with his wife Jeanne. "The Music on the Mountain series started as a way for us to bring more people to the park during the evenings. It has turned into a real locals' event, with neighbors helping neighbors through the food donations. We love seeing so many familiar faces every week, and are touched by the generosity of our customers."
The "cans-for-a-tram" rides will begin at 4 p.m., and the band will perform from 6 - 10 p.m. The Hell Roaring String Band is a five-piece acoustic band playing a wide range of music, from traditional bluegrass and Celtic tunes to outright rock 'n roll. The band has a musical flair, and a sense of humor and enjoyment about the music that makes it highly infectious. The Hell Roaring String Band features Mark Sumera, Kayo Ogilby, Shannon Meyer, Ted Frisbie and Brett Nelson. This concert's sponsor, Glenwood Insurance, has been serving the Roaring Fork Valley since 1911. As an independent agency, it represents more than 40 quality insurance companies.
A Day Pass, just $30 with the free tram ride during the event, will include unlimited access to the park's newest attractions: the Cliffhanger Roller Coaster, the Mine Wheel and the Wild West Express Coaster, as well as the Alpine Coaster, Giant Canyon Swing, Soaring Eagle Zip Ride, Fort WhereAmI Maze, 4D Motion Theater, Laser Tag arena, Speleobox cave simulator, Climbing Wall and Giddy Up! Western ride. The outdoor attractions will be open until dusk; the Laser Tag arena and 4D Motion Theater will be open until 10 p.m. The Lookout Grille and Snack Shack will be open for dinner and refreshments; drink specials including $3 Coors Lights, Coronas and glasses of wine, and $4 well drinks, will be available in the plaza.
The Music on the Mountain series continues on Sun., Sept. 9, with an evening of contemporary Christian music; Sat., Sept. 15, with Already Gone and Sat., Sept. 22, with The Missing Link Band. For more information, visit www.GlenwoodCaverns.com or call 800-530-1635 or 970-945-4228, ext. 0.
