Over the next several weeks, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park will be transformed into a dazzling alpine winter wonderland, bringing together the sights, sounds, and tastes of the holiday season like no other place in Colorado. With twinkling lights, festive music, and visits from Santa and the Grinch, the annual event begins Nov. 23, runs through the Christmas holiday, and wraps up on Jan. 4. Whether you’re planning a holiday getaway or just looking for a magical day of winter cheer, Winter on the Mountain the antidote to cabin fever!
Kick Off the Season with a Winter on the Mountain Party!
The excitement begins with the Winter on the Mountain Kick-off Party on Saturday, November 23, 2024. This opening celebration is the perfect way to embrace the holiday spirit. In addition to festive décor as far as the eye can see, there will be live music on the kick-off weekend and select days throughout the holiday season. Check Glenwood Caverns’ website for the most up-to-date details.
Half a Million Lights and a Whole Lot of Magic
No winter wonderland would be complete without spectacular lighting displays, and Winter on the Mountain boasts half a million magical lights that create a truly enchanting experience. As you ride the gondola to the Park entrance on top of Iron Mountain, the glow of the lights welcomes you into a world of holiday cheer. Wander through the Park, where trees, rides, and pathways are brilliantly festooned with lights.
Santa Claus and the Grinch are Coming to the Mountaintop!
What’s the holiday season without a visit from Santa Claus? Take the kids to the Park for a special meet-and-greet with Santa, a Winter on the Mountain highlight. On Saturdays in December, the Jolly Old Elf himself will be stationed in Santa’s Workshop, ready to hear what’s on children’s wish lists, pose for photos, and spread the Christmas spirit to one and all.
Santa won’t be the only celebrity on the mountaintop on Saturdays in December, the Grinch will also be making a reluctant appearance. Grumpy, green, and a big hit with both kids and parents, the Grinch will melt hearts despite his aversion to presents, ribbons, and all things Christmas!
Holiday Music to Warm Your Soul
One of the best parts of Winter on the Mountain is the festive sounds that fill the air. On kick-off weekend and select weekends during December, talented local musicians will perform seasonal tunes and other favorites. Whether it’s classic Christmas carols or modern holiday hits, the music will have you merrily humming along as you enjoy the park’s wintery delights. The music doesn’t end when the band stops playing either. Throughout the holiday season, the Park’s mesmerizing musical Christmas tree, complete with an accompanying light show, plays sets every 30 minutes starting at 5 p.m.
Explore the Mysteries of the Caves
Winter doesn’t mean you have to stay above ground! Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park’s two awe-inspiring cave tours are open year-round to explore the hidden wonders beneath the mountain. Named a National Natural Landmark, they are a wonder to behold. Step inside the snow-free environs of the caverns to see intricate formations that have taken thousands of years to form. The warm glow of the lights inside the caves adds to the ambiance.
