Glenwood Canyon has gotten a lot of attention in the news lately. Mudslides have caused a temporary closure of the interstate highway that travels to and through Glenwood Springs. As optimists though, we believe there is always a silver lining.
Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park is a theme park situated on top of a mountain. Who, but optimists and dreamers would place some of the scariest rides on earth on top of a mountain? That’s just what our owners did. To riff on a Kevin Costner baseball movie, we built it and you came! You came for the cave tours, the thrill rides, the views, but most of all you came for an out-of-the-ordinary, over-the-top experience. None of that has changed because of the temporary closure of I-70. In fact, for visitors to Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park, the experience is now better than ever!
Silver Lining: Summer Is Going Strong
Summer is one of the best times to visit Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park. Our stunning landscaping is in full bloom and sunny, blue-sky days are ideal for adventuring whether exploring the caves or swinging high over the edge of Iron Mountain on the Giant Canyon Swing. During the summer months, which for us runs through October, the Park is open every day of the week; barring weather delays or routine maintenance, it’s a time of year when all the rides and family attractions are open and fully operational.
Silver Lining: No Pressure
Like everyone else in the state, we’re looking forward to the reopening of Glenwood Canyon in the weeks to come. But, in the meantime, we’re enjoying a little less pressure on the Park. We think you’ll like it too. Typically, on peak weekends, the Adventure Park is a hot spot for summertime travelers. With the temporary closure, things are a little quieter, laid back and relaxed. Enjoy shorter wait times for cave tours and your favorite rides the Alpine Coaster and the Soaring Eagle Zip Ride, as well as quicker restaurant service at the Lookout Grille and The Smokehouse. In fact, we highly recommend that you dawdle as much as possible during your visit. When there’s no need to rush to “the next thing,” you can relax and savor every moment of your day at the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park.
Silver Lining: Drive, Arrive & Revive
From the front range, there are several driving routes to Glenwood Springs. The Colorado Department of Transportation recommends the northern route from Silverthorne through Steamboat to Rifle and on to Glenwood Springs. For vehicles 35-feet-long or less, travel via Independence Pass through Aspen is another option. Cottonwood Pass from Gypsum to Glenwood Springs is open as well, but the dirt road has a steep, rough road section that is best suited to high clearance, all-wheel-drive vehicles.
Once in town, kick back at comfy and welcoming Glenwood Springs lodging, go out for a delicious meal at local restaurants and enjoy one-of-a-kind amenities such as Iron Mountain Hot Springs or the Glenwood Vaudeville Revue comedy show. To make the most of travel time, consider adding on an extra day or two to your Glenwood Springs vacation!
